Screening

Substance abuse testing includes urine drug screen (NIDA and non NIDA) and breath alcohol screening, which are procedures to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR 391.41). Increasing numbers of employers require a pre-placement or post-offer drug test as a condition of employment and have adopted it as a corporate policy. Many companies are now including random drug testing as part of their workplace health and safety programs, particularly for safety-sensitive positions.

Medical Access provides drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the DOT standards, including appropriate record documentation and storage, sample analysis by a NIDA-certified laboratory and review of results by a Medical Review Officer (MRO). Following the DOT guidelines and standards also allows Medical Access to assist in reducing the employer's liability by providing legally defensible results, since the DOT standards are a federal mandate and likely to withstand legal review successfully.

Procedures are performed by certified breath alcohol technicians and drug sample collectors utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and approved by regulatory agencies such as the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Speed and accuracy of substance abuse testing results are of critical importance, especially when safety is an issue. We understand the importance of this and have a quick turnaround time of drug screen results during the hiring process as well as following an accident or injury. Medical Access is extremely conscientious in scheduling employees promptly and reporting results to the employer as quickly as possible.
